Light Feet.

Post by Josh on Wed Sep 02, 2009 5:15 pm

I've always had a sluggish movement to everything i do, and i bring it down to my lack of Light Footed-ness (real word?) Everytime i do something, it ends with a stamp, and never looks graceful. And the grace of movement is something of which i believe to be one of the great things about Parkour/free-running/tricking.

So how to i gain Light Feet? I would imagine that if i go into a temple after slaying some mosters, a chest would explode into view and i could loot them, but that seems very un-likely.

What form of exercise do i want to be doing? I plan to look into this, but if anyone has anything they can share with me, i would be very greatful ^^

Love and Bunnys.

Barefoot.

Makes you run, jump & land properly, exercises all the muscles in the foot and ankle, and gives you a lighter more agile feeling.

Really, you have no excuse for wearing shoes at all this time of year.

Alternatively, use Roc's Feather.

Apart from if you are entering Lidls... Sad

Also just small precision jumps or just jumping up and trying to land silently when you land, best way to land silently is, as Lands has stated, to land on your toesies.

Are you talking about somersaults or parkoury stuff?

Everything. I pretty much want to improve my grace.
And so far what i have been told seems like a good idea. I might even organise a bare-foot training session sometime soon ^^

Probably better to start off slow bare foot.
E.g. walk places bare foot/light jumping and then after a few weeks run places barefoot and a bit bigger jumping etc.
As feet generally have been imprisoned in the evil jails, that some people like to call 'shoes', for most of our lives.

I was thinking about doing some bare foot jogging in the forest, but staying off the path so my feet have to adjust to constantly moving terrain.
I think you're right about how shoes have restricted the ability of our feet. Almost as if it is a dead layer of shell stopping all feeling (and thus slowing reaction) It would be like wearing ear-muffs for our entire live, only to take them off and realise we hear better.

Concrete has also restricted the ability of our feet because it's always flat and our feet/ankles don't have to work on constantly adjusting.

Bare footedness might help you to get 'light feet' but I wouldn't say as much as just consciously trying to land silently. But it depends if you're trying to do it on precision jumps etc (if you do parkour) or in somersaults/tricks because it's different.

Are you talking about landing silently or generally not looking cumbersome?

Not looking cumbersome (Like a retard?)
I would also imagine that it will help my ability to keep a steady flow and be able to chain up my moves, not to mention it would increase power if my feet learnt to adjust to its landing before moving into something else, instead of being a stiff door with rusted hinges.

I don't think that barefootedness is going to help that as much as just training a hell of a lot more will. It seems you're just concerned with moving more naturally, which will just come with time and practice.

Barefoot will be great for the health of your feet, ankles, legs and posture though.

Run through forests, You will be forced to move more naturally to get through the various obstacles.

Were you talking about tricking with 'chain up moves'? If so the best way to get more smooth with that is work the basics loads so you that your hooks and kicks generate momentum and don't just kill it Smile

You're probably right, i do just need to practice more, i reckon recovering from glandular fever has made me notices how big my faults are.
I should start to eat abit more healthy foods too, i need to be lighter.

Well, i'll go for a run in the forest now me thinks. I have way too much time on my hands (feet) so it will give me something to do.
